So why did I choose Butterfly Wings as my business name? I am not a nature photographer, I don’t capture images of butterflies on a regular basis, so what’s the deal with the name??

Good Question!

I learned photography on an old Nikon film camera. It had once been my uncles and was passed to me when I decided to take a photography class and needed a “good” camera.  I learned how to shoot, see the light, and even develop in a dark room using film.  Then in 2007, my husband bought me my first DSLR! I was in love – until I tried to use it.  Then I went through periods of love, kinda like, and deep hatred with my this new medium. But I was determined to learn, so I kept at it.

One day as I was uploading my pictures onto my old desktop, I saw one that really stuck out! It was just a simple shot of a butterfly on a flower from my garden, but it was sharp, the colors were right, and it really looked… professional! It was the first straight-off-the-camera picture of mine that I looked at and felt immediately good about.

“The butterfly counts time not in months but in moments…”

That image stuck with me, and when I decided to start a business and had to choose a name, Butterfly Wings just seemed right. Plus my initials are BW, so it fit in more ways than one!!

Over the years this business has come and gone and come back again. My photography has changed and morphed like a caterpillar into a butterfly. But the name has remained and will remain as long as I am able to shoot.
